What to do after the holidays?

After you clean away the wrapping paper and finish off the last of the fruit cake, get out your calendar for 2014 and circle the dates of Jan 16-19th for the San Antonio Cocktail Conference.

This is the 3rd year for the San Antonio conference and the weekend brings together top bartenders and parties plus seminars for a fun event downtown. It is similar to the New Orleans "Tales of the Cocktail" event.

The opening night will be held at the Majestic Theater on Thursday Jan. 16th from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Ticket cost is $100 which fills the historic venue with three levels of signature drinks and food stations, live music and an auction.

Check the link above for the full list of activities spanning the entire weekend and the required tickets, locations and cost for each.

The cocktail competition will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Jan. 19th at the Aztec Theater on N. St Mary's Street and the cost of tickets are $20. Each contestant will make five of their own original cocktails and a panel of judges will declare the winners.

Some of the local partners and sponsors that are joining the event include: Bohanan's, Soho Martini Bar, Luke River Walk and the Sheraton Gunter Hotel.

And view the video, which gives you step-by-step instructions on how to make a holiday treat called a candy cane cocktail.

The conference also benefits two great causes, HeartGift and ChildSafe. So stir up some fun and help some good causes as well. HeartGift provides heart surgery to disadvantaged children and ChildSafe brings help to neglected and abused children in Bexar County.

Have a safe holiday and happy new year.
