As part of the 125th anniversary of The Coca-Cola Company, The Coca-Cola Foundation will donate $1 million to the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta to support Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's "Centers of Hope" Initiative. Mayor Reed’s vision for transforming the city’s 33 recreation centers into neighborhood havens where young people can strengthen their academic skills, engage in robust physical fitness and sports activities, and develop positive character traits and values has been one of his greatest campaign promises to the city of Atlanta. Approximately 1,000 youth will benefit from this initiative, which will be led in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlanta. This donation will be used to fund pilot programs at two recreation center sites, enabling Mayor Reed and other city leaders to better determine the type of programming, activities and metrics that will best fit into the after-school model envisioned for the Centers of Hope.
The announcement was made today during Mayor Reed’s annual State of the City business breakfast address, which took place before an audience of more than 900 business and community leaders.
This year’s breakfast was co-hosted by Muhtar Kent, CEO of the Coca-Cola Company, and Phil Kent, CEO of Turner Broadcasting and Chairman of the Atlanta Committee for Progress.
