According to the Canadian Olympic Committee in a press release on Wednesday, Eric Myles has been hired as the Canadian Olympic Committee's executive director of sport.

The executive director of sport position is a newly created one by the Canadian Olympic Committee. It appears Myles will be responsible for working closely with national sports federations to ensure that Canada continues to produce high performance athletes at future Olympic Games. He will be starting next week at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Myles, who will seem to be based out of Montreal, will work closely with and report to Caroline Assalian, the Canadian Olympic Committee's chief sport officer.

Myles has a canoeing background as he has represented Canada at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis in the men's doubles 500m kayaking event, and at the World Championships.

Myles has also a wealth of administrative experience on the sporting stage in Quebec and Alberta.
