College of the Canyons got their second half off to a roaring start against Chapman University on Jan. 5 with a 22-1 victory. The game was really no contest from start to finish as Canyons scored 23 seconds into the first period, completely controlling play from the opening drop of the puck. Canyons got goals from 10 players including three-goal games from Wayne Ravdjee, John Cevarich, Brian Voogt and Kris Rodgers as well as a four-goal, eight-point night from Trevor Tracy. All but three players on the Canyons roster (one being goalie Taiyoh London) recorded at least one point in the game.
This week Canyons travels North to take on ACHA Division II opponent San Jose State University. SJSU is currently 7th in the ACHA DII Western Region Rankings with a 12-6 record, which includes a near flawless 9-1 home record this season. Canyons will look to stop SJSU leading scorers Sam Cimino, Arthur Arias, and Kyle Dutra Cimino comes into the game as SJSU's leading point getter with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 19 games. Not far behind him is Arias who has totaled 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 20 games. Dutra leads the team in goals with 16 in 20 games.
Canyons needs at least a split this weekend against SJSU if they have any hopes of moving up from their current 7th place raking in the ACHA DIII Pacific Region and put themselves in a better position to make their fourth straight ACHA DIII National Tournament appearance.
