A 20-year-old man was struck and killed this morning while attempting to cross North Marietta Parkway in Marietta, according to the Marietta Police Department. Authorities are now searching for the driver, who drove away from the scene without rendering aid.

Per Marietta police, the driver of a four-door Kia Spectra hit the pedestrian from behind while he was walking on a parkway located in between I-75 and Wallace Road. The driver of the car fled, but a witness called 911. The victim was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he died from his injuries. Although the pedestrian has been identified, police are not releasing his name until family notification.

Meanwhile, police are asking for assistance in identifying the driver. The Kia Spectra, a 2007-2009 model, may be a coupe or a hatchback, but because of the severity of the accident, the front passenger side of the vehicle should have body damage.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Officer Geoff Culpepper at 770-794-5357.
