Cobb County man charged in accident that injured cop remains in jail

A Kennesaw man who has been charged in a car accident that left an Atlanta police officer severely injured earlier last week, remains in jail.

According to a spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol, 45-year-old Scott Eugene Walker was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata on Interstate 75 at around 11:25 p.m. last Saturday. As he drove towards an exit ramp, he smashed directly into the police car of Osbert Beckles, an officer with the Atlanta Police Department. Beckles was working traffic near the Northside Parkway exit when the collision occurred.

Walker attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended shortly after. He was arrested and transported to the Fulton County Jail where he faces charges of driving under the influence, hit and run, improper lane change, no seat belt, serious injury by motor vehicle, and more.

Meanwhile, Officer Beckles was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital with broken bones, head injuries, and chest injuries. He is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive the ordeal.

Walker made his first court appearance this past weekend in Fulton County, where it was determined that he is currently on Federal probation. He remains in custody on a $58,000 bond.
