Every state in the United States has some set of laws on the books stating any person who denies an animal food, shelter or water will be charged with the crime of animal abuse. Law Enforcement agencies are in every city and every county to ensure the laws are followed and those that violate the laws be punished. There are also Animal Control Offices in every county to protect animals from abusive owners and provide a safe have for such animals.
What happens though when these laws are not enforced by those paid and entrusted by the public to do so? Hence, we have a serious problem. Why are animals being left with owners who abuse and neglect them even after government agencies are made aware of the problem? Why are abusers not arrested when law enforcement witnesses a dangerous environment for an animal? Why are judges letting animal abusers go with no punishment?
There are no easy answers to these thought provoking questions. Is it that the they are more concerned about violating the rights of the people and not caring about the rights of the animals because the animal cannot speak to reveal the atrocities and torture he/she has been made to endure? To protect and serve should mean all living things not just those that walk upright and can formulate words.
Case in point; a dog in Kennesaw, Georgia has been left to starve at the end of a chain with absolutely no adeqaute shelter. Oftentimes the chain becomes wrapped around the bottom of the owner's rickety, ramshackle porch and is imprisoned there in the hot sun for hours on end or left to be drenched in the rain. There are also no food or water sources anywhere within reach of this poor animal. You may think how can someone get away with treating an animal this way in the 21st Century? Shouldn't that be illegal?
To date, Animal Control has paid a visit to the house on Rambling Road N.E in Kennsaw, Georgia and cited the owner for no rabies vaccination or tag and no proper shelter for the dog. But the dog is still there left to suffer!! Many concerned citizens have called and complained but to no avail. Cobb County Georgia Anima Control turns a deaf ear and a blind eye.
This has got to be stopped. It is another example of a lazy, corrupt government agency failing to do the job they are commissioned to do.
Please be a voice for this dog and save him from being another statistic dying at the end of a chain.
*******Update, in the interim since this story was published we have received word that Animal Control has acted upon the multiple complaints coming in from concerned citizens. They have done an investigation and ordered the dog's owner to get vet care for her dog as well as invest in a plastic dog house. There is also going to be a court hearing for the neglect citations she has been issued.***** At this point A/C is not going to remove the dog from the premise. However, many people in the area will be keeping a vigilant eye open and make sure the owner does not fall into her same neglectful ways.***
