Cob building workshop August 2014

Those interested in building a cob home or a cob oven or wall can learn the technique at a workshop in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 9th through the 15th, 2014. This will be an actual hands-on building experience voluntarily creating a functional building for Volunteer in Your Community Inc's nonprofit program.It is part of an ongoing series, so if this date does not work out for you there will be others.

This is a seven day class that will teach basic skills in cob mixing techniques for making cob walls, creating beautiful and unique sculpture and decorative elements such as those large dragons, sun or moon faces that you see on cob walls and over the oven mouths, and teach roofing options and integration of them into cob walls.

It is a Saturday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM class at 805 Stoney Hill Circle, Greensboro, NC 27406 put on by Natural Building. Cost is $700 for an individual or $1300 for a couple. It is tax deductible since you will be creating space for Volunteer in Your Community's community food, gardening, and skill-building workshops in a 12'x12' cob cottage to be used as a community center and workshop space. There are also a limited number of work-trade positions available for discounted or full tuition.

Cob is an ancient building method that is extremely affordable and earth friendly using natural earth elements of soil, straw and water that anyone can learn how to do easily as long as you enjoy working with your feet and arms in mud.
