With many Hoosier families still struggling through tough economic times, some find buying a simple winter coat for their child to be a challenge. That's why, for the 23rd year in a row, WTHR Channel 13 is once again teaming up with Tuchman Cleaners and the Salvation Army to help provide warm winter coats to local children in need. From Labor Day though October 5, 2010 you can drop off a new or gently used winter coat to any of the 25 Tuchman Cleaners locations in the greater Indianapolis area. They are in need of heavy winter coats of all sizes - from little ones to teen sizes. Tuchman Cleaners will then clean all of the gently used coats and the Salvation Army will deliver them.
The Indianapolis Colts are also joining the campaign again this year by holding a special Coats for Kids collection on October 4, 2010 at the main gates of Lucas Oil Stadium right before the Colts take on (and defeat!) the Seattle Seahawks. Volunteers from WTHR, Tuchman's and the Salvation Army will be on hand to accept coats and monetary donations.
This year the coats will be distributed on Saturday, October 10, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Northwest Pavilion at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. Every child who comes and is accompanied by an adult will receive one coat. Over 8,000 coats were given away to central Indiana children in need in 2008!
So after you buy that new winter coat for yourself or your child this Fall, make sure you donate your gently used ones to Coats for Kids! Such a simple way to make a difference in the life of a child!
