Coal mine accident kills 21 in China, 4 people missing

Coal mine accident kills 21: In China, a coal mine accident has resulted in the deaths of 21 coal miners. And if that wasn’t horrific enough, there are still 4 people that are still missing.

A rescue effort is already underway to find the unaccounted for miners.

Sadly, coal mine accidents like this are not an uncommon thing. In fact, because China produces the most coal in the world, it’s not surprisingly that accidents to miners like this seem to occur with such regularity.

According to Businessweek, China’s mines have been one of the world’s deadliest for years now. With that said, the government recently came out and declared that “the death toll fell by more than 30 percent last year to 1,384 as a result of stricter management.”

While the news of the deceased and missing miners is horrible and tragic, there is a sliver of good news, as 58 other miners were able to escape the frightening situation and are doing okay as of now.
