In just 3 short months the desert city of Indio, California will be flooded with music fans, hipsters, industry professionals, and those just looking for an incredible atmosphere. 2013 marks the 12th year since its inaugural event in 1999 that Coachella Music Festival will leave thousands with memories, hangovers, photos, and experiences they will not soon forget. This year fans will have one, two, or both weekends in mid-April to be captivated by the desert sun.
Out of the 164 artists performing in 2013, some of the most notable rock acts such as The Rod Hot Chili Peppers, Vampire Weekend, Blur, The Stone Roses, Phoenix, and Social Distortion will share the same sonic canvas as EDM heavyweights like Bassnectar, Infected Mushroom, La Roux, Eric Prydz, and Paul Oakenfold. There truly is something for everyone with eardrums on one of the many stages and tents this year with some of the world's best in rock, indie, electro, dubstep, and hip-hop talent.
In case you need to give your ears a rest amidst the chaos, Coachella always features astounding visual art, often interactive and similar to the pieces and sculptures at other festivals like Burning Man and Art Basel. Perhaps just as impressive as the music is the 5 star roster of visual artists that continually make the gathering such a spectacle.
Although tickets are usually sold out by the time the lineup is even announced, that doesn't mean you can't find the occasional extra pass if you're willing to pay more or from those that stock up and scalp tickets to the highest bidder. Who knows what intrigue Coachella 2013 will bring? (last year fans watched astounded as rap extraordinaire Tupac Shakur was brought back from the dead with hologram technology). All that can be said is that this year's festival will be one for the books.
