It’s that time of year again. Time to push away thoughts of still having a few months left of winter and to start thinking about spring and summer tours. The first to offer the good news of a spring lineup is Coachella.
Coachella will return to its home in the desert of Indio, CA on April 16th and will continue through the 18th. Per usual, the lineup is quite massive and ties together an eclectic blend of music genres.
While Coachella is often thought of as a mostly indie-based festival, let’s not forget hip-hop artists such Lupe Fiasco and the Beastie Boys performing in past years. This year, first to headline on Friday April 16th, will be rap superstar Jay-Z. Co-headlining that night will be LCD Soundsystem and supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. Other acts on the bill that day include: Vampire Weekend, the Specials, Public Image Limited, Deadmau5, Echo and the Bunnymen and Passion Pit.
Saturday April 17th will showcase Muse as headliners while DJ’s Tiesto, David Guetta and the newly reunited 90’s rock legends Faith No More will co-headline. Other artists include: MGMT, the Dead Weather, Devo, Coheed and Cambria, Hot Chip and Kaskade.
The final night of Coachella will feature everyone’s favorite animated band, the Gorillaz, to close the fest. Before them on the schedule will be Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and the return of another recently reunited band, alt-rocker’s Pavement. Sly and the Family Stone, De la Soul, Spoon, Phoenix, and Orbital are among the other acts slated to perform on the 18th.
Coachella also will feature a few new options to festival goers this year. Among them being the ability to enter and leave as you please. This is huge perk to anyone who has attended a three day festival in the past as the policy usually is, once you’re in, you’re in with no option of re-entry. Another new feature is car camping. You can now park your car right next to your tent without the hassle of carrying all your supplies to it from a separate parking lot. If you’re not into roughing it, hotel packages and private home rentals are also available.
You can find all the details as well as the complete 2010 lineup on Coachella’s homepage.
Tickets go on sale for three-day passes as well as camping packages this Friday, January 22nd at 12:00 p.m. CST. All tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster.
