Coach Randy Brown shares strategies for youth basketball coaches

Coach Randy Brown (bio included below) runs http://coachrb.com and 10,000 people subscribe to his newsletter. He began this website in 2006, which followed an 18 year NCAA Division 1 men's basketball career, as head and assistant coach.

Coach Brown states that if he only had one hour of practice once a week he would spend that hour teaching, "competitive rebounding and toughness drills, pass and catch drills, and fundamental basketball skills."

With limited gym availability, many youth coaches state that they spend the time going over plays. Coach Randy Brown gives insight to the fact that competitive rebounding, toughness, and fundamentals will help win the game and help players succeed.

Many coaches create scouting reports on opponents for their players to read. Coach Brown shares that when making one of these reports, only include a few plays. "Players don't pay attention, for the most part, beyond 3-4 plays." He also said, "Much more important is preparing to defend the opponent based on their tendences and set up your defensive game plan accordingly." He also advises, "prepare your team to play your game, attention to detail is very important," and to "be more concerned with what you do instead of what your opponent does."
