A coach dies in freak accident is making top news headlines tonight, as the Daily Mail reported this Wednesday, March 6, that a beloved high school football coach was killed in a freak accident, impaling himself on a car-park gate outside of the school’s stadium.
Under the headline, “Coach dies in freak accident: California football coach impaled by car-park gate witnessed by students”, sources report that Marion Adams, a 59-year-old football and track coach at Rio Linda High School in California, died this week in a tragic incident as he headed home after practice on a bicycle ride.
As he was turning to wave goodbye to students on his bicycle, he slammed full speed straight into a yellow car-park gate. The half-opened barrier met him head-on, and Adams was impaled several inches into the stomach by the metal pole.
Students on scene rushed to save the coach and stem the bleeding until an ambulance could arrive. However, Adams died of the fatal injury on Tuesday morning.
Students, family, and fellow teachers and coaches at the high school are understandably reported to be “simply devastated” by this shocking loss.
"This is a nightmare," said his son. "I just keep waiting to wake up, but I can't."
