COA at Bayshore Town Center offers up delicious Mexican food

COA, located in the Bayshore Town Center shopping complex, offers up Mexican "urban cuisine". Modeled after Mexican food cart vendors, COA boasts a mix of familiar and original drinks, appetizers, and tapas-style entrees.

Start with a margarita or the excellent COA - a mix of Azul Tequila, Prickly Pear puree, and cranberry juice.

Now choose your food. There are Hot Plates, with dishes such as Queso Fundido, Nachos, grilled "street corn" (Elote), tamales and empanadas. Cold Plates include Guacamole, Atun, and a wonderful Ceviche Tostada, easily one of the best things on the menu.

Then choose your "street tacos". Choose your shell (flour or corn tortillas or lettuce cups), your fillings (ranging from the rich Nueske's Cherry Bacon, Carne Asada, or Pescado, to vegetarian Rajas or Frijoles), and how many of each you want. If getting a a Hot or Cold Plate, two is plenty. If not, then get three.

There are also side dishes and daily specials to choose from, as well as dinner specials and salads.

Since the place is a sprawling 100 tables, with outdoor seating, it's perfect to have drinks and order a little food, then have more drinks and a little more food, and so on. Thanks to high ceilings and minimal buffering, however, it can get loud.

COA is one of those places that people come back to over and over, to try various combinations of tapas in order to find their favorites.

Sorry, I didn't care for the food at COA at all, and I am not picky and love just about all Mexican food. The atmosphere was very nice (hip and trendy), the margaritas were fabulous, but the food was bland and nowhere near their advertised "street food" in terms of flavor or price. Three out of four of our dining party had the same opinion. The fourth person loved it. Sorry, can't even remember what we ordered. I'd go back for cocktails or margaritas at the bar but not for food.
