CO2 captured in solution while making electricity

M.T. Keshe claims to have come up with an inexpensive method for generating electricity through the capture of CO2 and methane gases in the air while converting them into solution and solid, with a byproduct being O2.

"In this system, one cleans up the environment while creating energy." -- M.T. Keshe

On Dec. 18, 2009, M.T. Keshe joined me on the Free Energy Now program.

Liquid CO2

To the right is a vial which Keshe says contains CO2 in solution; a process that purportedly generates electricity.

Keshe says he is powering the lights on a Christmas tree with his CO2 sequestration process.

Late on the evening of Dec. 18, 2009, I interviewed Mehran Tavakoli (MT) Keshe, of the Keshe foundation, located in Belgium.  It was early in the morning for him.  He had contacted me the day prior to see if I was interested in breaking a story.

You may recall that I interviewed him last July about a technology that allegedly both counters the effects of gravity while also generating electricity. He described his system as potentially enabling super fast and cheap travel, as well as what could be the next generation of commercial space travel. Not long thereafter, he was invited to be a guest speaker at the Space, Propulsion & Energy Sciences International Forum (SPECIF) that will be held at John Hopkins University next February 23 (3:30 pm).

He claims to have demonstrated the local-gravity-generation effect in a prototype in Iran, the land of his birth, where he says reception to his technologies has been warm, and where some pleasant surprises could come.  (He says that the Western portrayal of Iran as a warmongering nation bent on Western discomfiture is not at all fair or accurate.)

Well now he's got yet another eyebrow-raising announcement. He says that he has come up with a way to convert CO2 and Methane into solution and solid, while generating electricity, all in a small, inexpensive device, at room temperature. And the precipitate is said to be non-toxic -- harmless to the environment.  Another byproduct is oxygen.

In this case, CO2 acts as a fuel in a water solution, using background infrared as a catalyst, available 24/7, to bring the CO2 into solution where it precipitates into the bottom of the container -- all while generating electricity.  It is a solid state system with no moving parts.  The only maintenance would be to periodically remove the precipitate.  He says the CO2 slurry is safe to dump on the ground where it turns into a gel, and could even be beneficial to plants.  He said his associates have done this.

In a paper released today, Keshe states (slightly edited):

"Production and extraction of CO2 is known technology in the present science. What is new with our technology is that not only is CO2 extracted in a simple container at room temperatures and pressure, but at the same time energy is released through absorption and conversion of the captured CO2 to formic acid.  We have developed simple techniques to capture the energy released from this transition process."

He said one prototype has been running three small diode lights (each at 2 V, 0.8 mA) for 9 days now; and another similar prototype has been running one such light for 28 days continuously.  But the set-up that most captures the imagination, especially this time of year, is his claim to be powering the lights on his Christmas tree with this technology, which would take around 25 watts.

He envisions that once developed, a unit the size of a briefcase, and costing just a few hundred dollars, could power a house -- from CO2 -- with no moving parts.  And the jostling around of the cell in the back of a car would make it work even better, he predicts.

Keshe said his Foundation developed this technology as a back-up power system for his propulsion system mentioned above.

"One of the most surprising things about this is how simple it is," says Keshe.  It is so simple, he alleges, that even the most poor places on the planet could build one.  If open sourced, the energy problems and excess CO2 problems could rapidly be resolved.

"According to [some in the] scientific community, this is as important [a] discovery as when electricity was discovered."

This all sounds fantastic -- if it is real.  That's the big question.

There is no shortage of imagination and good intentions when talking to Keshe.  One has to wonder, after looking into the myriad of claims and checking Keshe's history, that there may be more dream than reality in his visions.  Just how real and practical this particular technology actually is remains to be seen.

He says that the process has been tested and confirmed by a university in Belgium, as well as by the Norwegian hobbyist magazine, Elektor, who he says will be publishing their results in an article titled "Just add water."  He said they replicated the technology and ran a cooling fan of 5 volts at 125 milliamps for a little over a minute.

He said the university measured CO2 in the solution sample he gave them.  They performed infrared, Raman spectroscopy and XRD, "confirming the extraction material to be CO2 in solution.  They also tested its solid matter residual."

Today they posted a paper on their website, describing the tests and their results.  "In the paper, all spectroscopes and the materials will be shown; and in the coming days we will post on our YouTube channel the showing of the liquid and solid CO2 and methane in open cups as liquid and dray powder and all details and the lights."

Two patents have been filed, one of them today.

Keshe says the development is based on existing principles of science just applied in a new way.  In particular, he cites an article published by the U.S. Department of Energy titled Carbon Dioxide (Reduction).

"We are in negotiation with European government on their invitation to start the development of our systems in Europe in the coming month."

He welcomes any serious party to stop in and see the technology in operation for themselves.  We at PES and the New Energy Congress would be anxious to have someone we know and trust stop in for a visit.  We were hoping for that to have been done in time for the publication of this story, but heavy skepticism about the claim prevented the potential persons from making the trip.

Sad to see this ongoing saga. Are they still taking deposits for moons trips? No one can take this seriously.
    Nothing here

I thought that you get energy by burning C+O2 to CO2.
And now Mr.Keshe claims to get energy by doing the opposite.
I think this looks a lot better than the usual perpetual motion machine.

Found it hard to read the whole paper, it's so full of elementary grammar and logic lapses. So sad.

True true Mark. It is indeed a sad day for mankind that people like Keshe are allowed to make false claims and get away with it. i don't believe him at all. He is an uneducated buffin. Look at the e3nglish in his articles. It is pure BS. He has been invited to SPESIF. Shows how low SPESIF has gone allowing fraudsters to their conferences. So sad.

hi, why don't you follow up on his claims about independent verification? which university in belgium? did you call them? what did they say? what did the norwegian magazine say?

personally i think he's a fraud. why? because on his forum he states he was consulting with nasa. just doing a basic search for nasa and keshe led me to a nasa based forum where there are many scientists and engineers discussing nasa technology (can't remember the name now). he was an avid poster there, and was not at all accepted there. in fact they banned him. on his forum however, he said his work with nasa was stopped by darpa, because the information was to important! a quick pm to the moderator of the forum showed this was not the case and that the reason for his ban was due to him jumping on any unrelated thread and pushing his 'theories'.

as a journalist, it's your job to fact check. right now, you're just unwitting PR for this guy. get your hands dirty and investigate his claims for a true artic

  • Joe 2 years ago

Journalist you are on the right track. This guy is a pure fraud. There is no doubt about it. Like you said this guy has no connection with NASA or DARPA. BS. Please dont buy the kits he plans to sell of his CO2 energy generator. You will regret it. Wait for him to sell the working machine. If you buy the kit you cant sue him if it dosent work. he will say you assembled it wrong. Wait for assembled machines. If not dont buy the kits.

  • Warf 2 years ago

What BS. You get energy by burning carbon and oxygen not vice versa. Dont be fooled by this pseudoscientist. He is just selling fake stuff to the public. Until his work gets peer reviewed and accepted by the mainstream scientific community dont buy any of his products. They are all fake.

  • Saheed 1 year ago

I recently found out about Keshes technology. There is no sign of him on his forum. I read through his forum and did not find any sign of him. Also the presentation did not go ahead as promised. i think he must be a fraud. I wanted to buy his book but when I realised he did not do the presentation as promised I clost interest and the fact that he seems to have hidden from the public seems to show he is a fraud or a coward at the most.

Can't never will! Neither will Mr. impossible! The guy who succeeds
is the guy who 'thinks' it CAN be done, THEN DOES IT. Do your History.
It goes back to Orville and Wilber . . . and ALL of History.
Sure, Keshe's English Grammar is pretty bad, but remember, he is conversing
in his 2nd language. Can you converse in HIS first language?
I say, be open minded . . . or hold your tongue! Closed minds accomplish
very little. This has always been true, and still is the PRIMARY problem!
Are you aware of Tesla's accomplishments? He developed, demonstrated and
patented VERY SIMILAR devices by 1898, but the GREAT technology was suppressed,
    because:
1, It would have been FREE to the World. (NO PROFITS!)
    2. The financiers (J.P. Morgan) couldn't see a way to recoup their investments.
    3. Gasoline and a wire based grids we're already in place, and already in the plans
    for BIG CORPORATION profits.
Virtually free energy is available now, and has been for the past 100 years.
    Open your minds!
What this man is saying is essentially the same as N. Tesla claimed in 1898.
We are in the energy jam we're in today; thanks to negativity
    and greed.

    Study Tesla if you doubt

I believe in Tesla. But Keshes technology has nothing to do with teslas free energy system which is much better. You cant ignore the inconsistencies in his story. His claims to be working with NASA when it turns out he was pushing his theory on their forum and got banned. Keshe is a greedy man who is deluded. I am open minded. I believe almost anything. I believe in Tesla. But Keshe refuses to show any videos of his device. This is a red card which raises suspicion that it is a scam. Let him demonstrate his device. Then we can open our minds. Until then he is just another theorist or most probably a scammer.
