An amazing display of celebrities graced the red carpet for CNN's Heroes 2011 Awards ceremony. Sofia Vergara, Miley Cyrus, Mary Louise-Parker just to name a few, arrived at the Heroes awards looking elegant and stylish.
The awards hosted by CNN is a unique star studded event. Unlike many other awards ceremony in Hollywood this is for the Heroes of the world, real life heroes. Many celebrities that arrived at the event play heroes on television or the movies, but the focus was not on them.
Hero of the Year - Robin Lim
Robin Lim, an American woman who has helped thousands of poor Indonesian women have a healthy pregnancy and birth, was named the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year.
According to CNN, the CNN Hero of the Year was chosen by the public after an 11-week vote on CNN.com. For being named Hero of the Year, Lim will receive $250,000 for her cause. That's in addition to the $50,000 that she and the rest of the top 10 Heroes each received for making the top 10.
The televised show may not have received the publicity that other awards shows do like the Academy Awards or Grammys, but Hollywood appeared in droves. Dressing to the nines, there was a subtle theme mixed in with the fashion of the night. Elegant, sophisticated and not over the top is an accurate description of many looks on the red carpet.
Who attended and what did they wear?
Sofia Vergara dressed modestly in a little black dress that flattered the beautiful actress. Mary Louise-Parker attended in a similar fashion; little black dress with strappy heels. Miley Cyrus performed and shocked fans with a barely there gown that left little to the imagination revealing major cleavage. Chris Rock performed Care as well and sported his signature "bad boy from the south" style.
Although embellished gowns are usually the status quo for major award ceremonies, there was a sense that the performers and actors did not want to draw attention away from the real Heroes and celebrities of the night.
When will CNN Heroes 2011 air again?
