CNN.com video: Bishop Eddie Long cancels Tom Joyner Morning Show interview
This CNN.com video talks about Bishop Eddie Long on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, and plays the audio of the statement written by Bishop Long and read by his attorney Craig Gillen on TJMS this morning, Thursday.
CNN expected a public statement on camera today, read by Bishop Eddie Long himself – but instead of a press conference with Long on camera, or a radio interview on the Tom Joyner Morning show, we got his lawyer asking for prayers and patience.
“Why is it taking so long?” asked the CNN reporter, and no doubt are many others who support Bishop Eddie Long and want to believe these are lies, but as the days pass without a flat out “I did not have sex with these men” direct statement, our faith in the denials wavers.
Bishop Eddie Long to speak Sunday at New Birth – website to stream live online?
Especially since we probably can’t watch what Bishop Long says via any online mediums on Sunday – that is, unless they allow CNN or other reporters inside New Birth to stream live if it’s not on Streaming Faith.
Plus, many of us will be at our own churches – Droid phones in hands, looking for any updates as to what Bishop Long will say.
Already folks are claiming that the “lawyer speak” being used is just mounting a defense that Bishop Eddie Long can use in court. He no doubt doesn’t want to say anything that would incriminate him.
After all, it is a popular thing for pastors to have “armor bearers” or other men around them that travel with them for the sake of integrity and to help keep them responsible and look out for women sent from Satan trying to sleep with them – black church folk are used to this.
Even younger men can be mentored by respectable pastors, and I guess it’s not too odd to find a plethora of people on the payroll of a large church.
No problem there – but I wish Bishop Long could get up there himself and say flat out that nothing sexual happened with these men.
Instead, like the reporter in this video says, Bishop Long’s attorney attacked the accuser – and the reporter brings up the Earl Paulk case – where a brutal battle between the plaintiffs and defendants has continued even after Paulk died.
Folks on Twitter claim that Earl Paulk was Bishop Eddie Long’s spiritual father.
“What was the nature of these trips with the young men? Spiritual advisor?” asks the reporter in the last video.
Expect more videos like these to come out in ensuing days.
Reportedly, Dateline NBC is working on a story about the Bishop Eddie Long scandal.
