For the last 30 years, the CMJ Music Marathon has been bringing a diverse group of musicians to New York City for five days of non-stop music and discovery. Through hundreds of showcases and panels, the Marathon has become one of the most influential festivals for learning and discovering the next big thing in the music industry. Headliners for the 2012 CMJ Music Marathon included Local Natives, Ben Gibbard, Killer Mike, Kimbra and GZA. Over the years, the festival has had a number of breakout stars, including Lady Gaga, Mumford and Sons, Avicii, Alabama Shakes, Gotye, and Icona Pop in the last five years alone.
As of August 29, the entire listing of panel discussions has been released as well. This year’s topics include “The New Age of Independent Labels,” “The Reign of the Music Video,” “The Return of Vinyl,” “iTunes: A Decade Later,” “Royalties in the Digital World,” “Recycled Sounds: Our Nostalgic Future,” “D.I.Y. Theory and Application,” and more, as well as College Day festivities and the entertainment law seminars. There will also be morning yoga sessions for a little bit of zen amidst the chaos of the festival.
The 2013 CMJ Music Marathon will run from October 15 through October 19. Badges for the festival are on sale now.
