CMJ started 32 years ago after being influenced by the original music seminar 'New Music Seminar' that started in 1980. CMJ Music & Film Festival starts this week in NYC with Music Industry professionals, Bloggers, Press and performances by some well known and not so well known musicians.
Many of the panels during the day are to include industry professionals from companies like SoundExchange, Bandzoogle, Spotify, eMusic. Record Labels that will be in attendance are Atlantic Records, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI and more to come.
This 5 day event filled with panels and performances is a lot to digest and keep track of but CMJ has this covered by developing an online scheduling tool that will allow attendees to make a schedule of what panels and shows they want to see and where they are located so they can have a better experience. Between the amazing lineup of artists, industry professionals and advance tools to make a schedule one must wonder the cost of a ticket.
CMJ prices have gone up to $594 for 1 full access badge, which is quite difficult for their core audience of musicians to afford especially in this musical economy. Over the years attendance has been down due to price of badges, panel discussions and the selection of musicians for the performances at night.
If your attending CMJ this year, tell me your thoughts below or sound off why your not going.
