The 2010 CMA Folk Music showcase is scheduled to be held Nov 4th at Pucketts. This showcase will feature 8 favorite Charlotte area folk singer-songwriters on an intimate stage in a single night. Many are artists who have endeared themselves to Charlotte's music fans. Others are talented singer-songwriters who will gain new fans as you get an opportunity to hear them live this night. The benefactors of this collection of artists are you, the people who love and support original live music here in the Charlotte region.
The artists use this night as a qualifying performance that is part of the selection process to determine the BEST FOLK ARTIST for the Charlotte Music Awards' Big Red Carpet Awards Show schedules to be held December 8th at CPCC's Halton Theater. More to come on that opportunity to recognize outstanding artists across multiple genres and their contributions to Charlottes music scene.
The 8 Folk Artists performing in the November 4th showcase at Puckett's are:
Dylan Gilbert - Dylan may only be in his early 20's but his experiences, accomplishments and music reflect a maturity which is uncommon. Dylan has released two albums to date. "The Quiet Life" was released in February 2008 and formed the basis of over 300 performances all along the East Coast of the US. It was these performances that grew his fan base and earned him well deserved recognition for his talents. These talents are highlighted in his 2nd album - "Pangaea", released in June 2010. The showcase is an excellent opportunity to experience Dylans talent.
Libby Haynes - While short on web presence there is a you-tube video of Libby performing "The Crissie Wright" and you'll hear her passion.
Paul Finnican - Paul Finnican was born and raised on Long Island, New York. An economics and English major, he wrote poetry and short stories in college under the name of P. C. James. He started and sold several small businesses before moving to Charlotte in 1992. Since 1994 he's been in banking, working as a small business lender. Paul began taking guitar lessons in 1998, first with Mars Music and then with John Tosco. He purchased The Sylvia Theater in York, South Carolina, in October 2001 and began a mission to revise it, while studying songwriting and finding a passion in words and music. Paul is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI).
Jackie Moseley - Originally from the Florida panhandle Jackie experienced the beauty and serenity that is North Carolina and decided to make her home here. That was a decade ago. Ten years of songwriting as an expressive avenue sharing knowledge and insights gained about people, life and her own inner workings. This self expression is yours to share in her music.
Amissville - In 2005, singer/songwriters Meredith Laney and David Holtzclaw met at a Darrell Scott show in Charlotte. They hit it off immediately, both personally and musically. Before long they formed Amissville and have since been writing and playing together in venues throughout the Carolinas, including special shows opening for the John Cowan Band and Ellis Paul. Their music is a reflection of the wonderful people that these two are - positive influences within the Charlotte music community. They give much more than they take - their music is a contribution to the enrichment of our lives.
Jamie Kay - A lot has been written about Jamie over his 35 year career as a sing-songwriter. The fact that he has been an active part of American music for that many years speaks volumes about his talent. We here in Charlotte are fortunate that he is one of "us" and we have the opportunity to share his experiences in an intimate setting celebrating folk music. This is certainly an opportunity for you to meet the man and hear his story through music.
Jeremy Vess - This night is your chance to hear the music of someone who is relatively new to the core of the Charlotte music scene. He's a native of the Carolinas and has studied in Nashville after spending time in the Outer Banks. "Vess’ four-song EP called Feather in the Wind conveys a feeling of constant motion. Even though all of his songs were written over a period of eight years, that same theme seems to touch each one. “I feel like all these songs kind of encompass that to some degree,” Vess said. “On some level, they all speak of something stirring in you – something moving you.”"
Marie Reid Wiegleb - Growing up in the hills of Virginia during the 70's folk revolution led by Emmylou, Ronstadt, Lightfoot, CSN, PPM, Don Williams, Denver, Raitt, the Doors, and Bread Marie's musical influences are natural and unmistakable. Marie currently resides in Mooresville, NC and generally performs solo gigs at local coffee shops, private parties and wine rooms, though always welcoming others to work with or to join in. Her folk tunes are warm and poet in nature - in line with the examples of her admired influences.
