CM Punk vs. Scott Armstrong, then vs. R-Truth... what's next?

I had a disturbing realization about where the current feuds of CM Punk might be going. First, he feuded quickly with referee Scott Armstrong who, though he cost him a match or two, was quickly dispatched. This lead to Punk feuding with R-Truth. In the ring, Punk has basically owned R-Truth, with Truth getting an occasional advantage outside the ring. If the feud continues to develop, and this week’s Smackdown makes it seem like it will, there is a logical link between Scott Armstrong and R-Truth that could be where the feud goes next – “The Road Dogg” Jesse James. (if you want to read about a great the movie featuring the cool Jesse James, click here).

James is actually a member of the famed Armstrong wrestling family, son of “Bullett” Bob Armstrong. His brother? You guessed it, Scott Armstrong. Road Dogg is best known for his team with Billy Gunn as the New Age Outlaws. Often forgotten, however, is that when that team broke up, he had another in the WWE, with then newcomer, K-Kwik. Who is K-Kwik now? You guessed it, R-Truth.

This is, of course, not good news for CM Punk. While Punk is an amazing heel, there are few feuds lower than one with a referee. This isn’t Danny Davis feuding with the Hart Foundation and the British Bulldogs where the ref actually has heat and is there to just be a whipping boy either – Armstrong got to look fairly impressive. From there, Punk moves to R-Truth, a step up only in that he’s a wrestler, regardless of how poor his gimmick. or ring skill may be. Punk, a multi-time champion, is now realistically feuding with a guy who rookie Drew McIntyre owned. And then he’d get Road Dogg.

Road Dogg is a nostalgia trip for those who miss the days of D-X, but I think Hunter and Shawn have that covered reasonably well. He has no credibility left after being a jobber and interviewer in TNA for the past few years. He was never a good wrestler, even at the always simple WWE house style of wrestling. Hopefully, Punk is elevated once more to the top of the card after this mini-feud with Truth is done, but logical progression says next will be Road Dogg… and for that the logical progression sucks.
