CM Punk goes to war on Twitter against Chris Brown

WWE Champion CM Punk has sparked a celebrity media firestorm today, Tuesday, Febraury 21, with his continued attacks on rap star Chris Brown.

Punk started his onslaught on Monday before Monday Night RAW on his Twitter account when he wrote "I would like @chrisbrown fight somebody that can defend themselves."

Brown responded later on Monday on his Twitter account with "@CMpunk needs more followers. He's such a leader! Not to mention the roids hes on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure a women."  He then posted, "@CMpunk contact my assistant and I'll have em send u an autographed pic for my biggest FAN!!!"

Of course this all stems from Brown’s 2009 attack of then girlfriend and fellow musician Rihanna, and then his recent re-emergence in the public eye at the 2012 Grammy Awards.

The rivalry heated up on Tuesday when Punk posted a video further burying Brown.  The video can be found at the left side of this article.

Brown then responded with a variety of Tweets, talking about music is forever, Punk as a wrestler is fleeting and hen namedropped his favorite old-school wrestlers, but completely misspelled half their names in the process.  He then used the hashtag #notnopunks, which was a top trending item throughout the evening.

Naturally this was all happening during WWE’s Super SmackDown special, which caused wrestling fans to add further fuel to the fire and the story, and attempting to get #chrisbrownsucks as a trending item.

As Brown ended for the evening he posted, "Note:today will be the last day I bring @cmpunk existence up!The confrontations that people continuously bring my way are very amusing. Cuz honestly, that [expletive] is too time consuming to argue wit every person who has their own issues to deal with!"

After Punk had finished wrestling on SmackDown he replied with a simple Tweet that said, “aintnowomanbeater.”

While it seems ridiculous that Twitter has become such a mode for apparent celebrity feuds and legitimate gripes, it was certainly the talk of the wrestling world today.  WWE, to their credit, ran all the way with the story on their website and even mentioned the rivalry on-air during SmackDown.  And not surprisingly, gossip site TMZ has the story front and center on their website.

As a jaded pro wrestling fan this certainly seems like a way to get Brown involved in the WrestleMania mega event coming up in forty days.  But in reality this surely will not be the case.  There is no way Brown will agree to such a thing, and WWE would suffer far more negative backlash from including Brown as a marketing ploy than any positive goodwill, mainstream attention or financial gain they would hope to attain.

It seems as Punk went into this himself just out of sheer disgust for Brown and his push for human decency.  The story picked up steam and WWE wisely decided to run with it, especially on the night of a live television special.

Time will now tell if this story goes any further or if it will just become a flavor of the week.
