CM Punk being courted by Bellator MMA and World Series of Fighting

According to a Feb. 5 report from MMA Fighting, the World Series of Fighting is interested in booking WWE star CM Punk for an MMA fight.

Jason David Frank's manager, Brian Butler, recently called World Series of Fighting executive vice president and matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz, to ask if the promotion would be interested in setting up a fight between his client and the WWE superstar.

Abdel-Aziz confirmed that the promotion would be quite interested in securing Punk's services. He noted that WWE superstar Brock Lesnar made the smooth transition to the MMA world, so he sees no reason why Punk couldn't do the same.

"If Brock Lesnar can do it, he can do it," Abdel-Aziz said.

The World Series of Fighting isn't the only promotion salivating over the thought of bringing Punk on board.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter reporter Dave Meltzer reported that Bellator MMA is also interested in setting Punk up for an MMA battle.

Bellator MMA has apparently expressed preliminary interest in Punk.

"I get the impression a part of him would like to do it the same way Batista did it as a bucket list thing," Meltzer said of Punk. "With Batista, it seemed on the surface to be a real bad risk, but in the end, he did it and wasn't hurt at all. With Punk, on the surface, it would seem the same thing. A theoretical big risk."

Punk, 35, walked out on the WWE shortly after last month's Royal Rumble.

He was apparently upset that Batista won the rumble and that he wasn't being pushed enough as the face of the promotion.

Punk, who will see his WWE contract expire this summer, recently hinted that he has the itch to try a real MMA fight. That would explain why so many promotions are coming out of the woodwork to secure his services.
