Clutch free throw shooting gives Foxcroft victory over PCHS

GUILFORD-- The Foxcroft Academy Ponies shot 15-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, including 13-14 in the final three minutes to secure a 58-46 boys basketball victory over the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates on Monday evening.

The Ponies shot 20-26 from the line for the game.

Hunter Smith led a balanced Ponies attack with 13 points.

The Ponies went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Foxcroft took their biggest lead of the first half, when a Smith basket game them a 27-13 advantage with 3:05 remaining in the second quarter.

PCHS cut the lead to seven on two different occasions in the second half, but could not get any closer.

Sam Keane recorded 11 points (5-5 FG), five steals and four rebounds. Kolby Kendall scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Hunter Law filled up the stat sheet with eight points, 10 assists, and seven steals.

Sean Cody added eight points (8-8 FT). Dylan Harmon-Weeks scored five points. Riley Richard chipped in with two points.

Smith added five rebounds, two assists, and one block.

Foxcroft (6-11) has a comfortable lead on the final class B tourney spot with one game remaining in the regular season.

The Ponies regular season finale will be on Friday evening when they host John Bapst.

Tristan French led the Pirates with 14 points and three steals.

Nate Burns added 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Spencer Martell scored nine points in his final regular season home game in a Pirates uniform.

Martell's made his final shot when he hit one off the backboard from half court right before the buzzer at the end of the game.

Jeremy Bell recorded four points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Mitchel Noyes chipped in with four points. Nick Fortier added three points and five rebounds.

PCHS (9-8) will finish their regular season on Thursday evening when they travel to Narraguagus.

The Pirates currently sit in eighth place in the current MPA class C heal point standings.
