At Club Passim, comedy and storytelling rule with 'Women in Comedy Festival'

As the warm weather rises, laughter ensues at Club Passim. Women pose a triple threat as Club Passim offers three chances to see Women in Comedy Festival, Vinx: Soul recitals returns with new, promising talent, bring Mom to the John Williams' student show, and enjoy plenty of storytelling and song woven in between.

Acoustic music takes a dynamic turn with ‘Deadstring Ensemble,’ a group of guitar pluckers that explores a range from traditional Irish music to folk-rock. Promoting their new CD and having performed at Club Passim’s BCMFest earlier this year, ‘Deadstring Ensemble’ take the stage on Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m.

Vinx: Soul Recitals stems from a songwriter’s retreat, Soul Kitchen. Showcasing unique, dynamic artists from Berkeley, see what new and promising acts take the Club Passim stage on Tuesday, May 6 at 8 p.m.

Club Passim treats its audience to a trilogy of artists on Wednesday, May 7 at 8 p.m. First, Bluegrass and acoustic band, ‘Blue Hat, Yeah’ was featured last month at Club Passim’s ‘Down Home, Up Here Bluegrass Festival.’ San Diego-based fiddler and mandolin instructor John Mailander will take the stage with singer-songwriter Molly Tuttle featuring songs from their latest release from February 2014, ‘Molly Tuttle and John Mailander.’

On Thursday, May 8, Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, Club Passim is transforming into evenings of laughter. Celebrate women in comedy with ‘Women in Comedy Festival,’ featuring a wide range of successful female comedians such as Jessie Baade, TJ Spaulding, Myka Fox, and Joanne Filan.

During the day, see family entertainment from Mister G on Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. Hosted by Robin Maxfield, get a preview of some of the storytelling talents from a few of the comedians featured in ‘Women in Comedy Festival’ at 3:30 p.m.

Finish off Mother’s Day weekend with Mom on Sunday, May 11 as Grammy-nominated artist, Jesse Williams hits the stage at 4:30 p.m.
