Another Club Nintendo year has passed and Nintendo finally revealed this year's list of Elite status rewards earlier today. In previous years, those who registered enough Nintendo products and games to become Gold or Platinum level members (earning 300 to 600 coins, respectively), were granted with the choice of a physical item in order to show their dedication (and for collection purposes). Some fans may be disappointed to find that this isn't the case with this year's rewards, which are strictly limited to free game downloads for the Wii U and 3DS.
Platinum members will be able to choose from any game on the list, though some will be exclusive to the highest level of members. This includes Wii U titles like Game & Wario, NES Remix, Dr. Luigi and EarthBound (virtual console). Platinum 3DS owners will have a chance to download Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Fluidity: Spin Cycle, Dillon's Rolling Western and Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move.
Of course, several virtual console titles will be available for both Platinum and Gold members. The Wii U virtual console games include Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros. and Zelda II: Adventure of Link. 3DS owners of either member level will be able to snag Donkey Kong 3, Wario Land 2, Metroid and Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
Previous years have seen the release of special Super Mario Bros. figures, playing cards and pin sets, and last year's rewards featured the special re-release of the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask soundtrack. We have to admit that we're a little sad that Nintendo isn't continuing this tradition, as it was always one of the more exciting aspects of Club Nintendo, though these free games should help fans expand their collections with titles that they may not have purchased otherwise.
