Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is Delicious! (Review)

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs should probably be referred to as Cloudy with a Chance of AWESOME. The movie is a funny, wonderful, creative, and interesting film that kids of all ages will enjoy. If you are looking for a funny movie to watch with the whole family, you'll definitely want to pick this up at your local video store.

Originally this story was a book. The book, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, follows two children as their grandfather tells them the story of a town called Chewandswallow and how the town had food weather. The movie, however, is not like the book in that it traces back to the origins of WHY this small town has yummy weather. The main character, Flint Lockwood, is an inventor that wants to create something great to help the people of his town. His town originally was called "Swallow Falls", a sardine fishing town. When the sardine factory closed, the town is stuck eating all the sardines that no one else in the world wants to eat. Flint wants to try and invent a device that will turn water into food thereby allowing his town to eat things aside from sardines. All goes well at first but if you watch the movie, you'll find out that it's not as great as it seems!

This movie was produced by Sony Pictures Animation who have also put out other films including Open Season, Surf's Up, and Monster House. Actors in this movie include Bill Hader who plays Flint Lockwood, Anna Farris who plays a peppy news station intern, Sam Sparks, Bruce Campbell who provides the voice of Chewandswallow's Mayor, and even Mr. T!. The actors do a wonderful job making the characters funny and fun to listen to. They provide high energy voices to which match their characters perfectly.

The movie is computer animated and also 3D although you can watch it WITHOUT the 3D glasses if 3D makes you a bit sick. As far as the animation is concerned, it is a stylized computer animated masterpiece. Very cartoony yet at the same time the realistic textures and the flow of the animation could make this world believable. The food on the screen honestly could drive any viewer's mouth to water so we suggest that you grab a plate of your favorite comfort food while watching this movie.

The rating is PG for brief, mild language (nothing serious mind you) so if you are a parent who is sensitive about what your child watches, you should watch the movie first and decide for yourself whether or not it is appropriate for your babies.

All in all, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is an excellent family movie night choice for those of you that have family movie nights. Even if you’re an adult you’ll love this movie!
