High pressure drifting towards the New England coastal waters today along with low pressure approaching from the Ohio River Valley will set up a cloudy and unsettled weather pattern that will linger through this weekend. While widespread rain is not expected, disturbances passing to the south and over New Jersey will keep threat for showers in place. Some of these showers will produce heavy downpours at times.
Today on through tomorrow, with high pressure to the northeast and low pressure to the southwest and south, scattered to overcast cloud cover can be expected with a few scattered showers. The showers will be capable of heavy downpours at times, however most locations will miss out on the rainfall. Winds will be from the east and northeast by this afternoon at around 5 mph, increasing to 5 to 15 mph by tomorrow morning. These winds will transport an air mass in from the Atlantic Ocean leading to plenty of low clouds and areas of dense fog at times. Temperatures this afternoon will range from the lower to mid 80's throughout New Jersey for highs. Temperatures tomorrow morning will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's over northwestern New Jersey and mid to upper 60's throughout the rest of New Jersey for lows. High temperatures tomorrow afternoon will rise into the upper 70's to lower 80's throughout New Jersey.
On Friday, a more organized area of low pressure will move through New Jersey leading to more widespread showers capable of very heavy downpours. A few showers may be capable of producing localized flash flooding or urban flooding due to poor drainage. Winds will remain from the east at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's for lows and mid to upper 70's for highs.
On Saturday and Sunday, broken to overcast cloud cover can be expected through the weekend. However, high pressure over New England will be strong enough to keep the forecast relatively dry with only a slight chance of a shower. Winds will remain from the east at 5 to 15 mph. Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's over northern New Jersey and mid to upper 60's over central and southern New Jersey. High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70's over much of New Jersey however lower 80's are possible over southwestern New Jersey if enough sun breaks out.
High pressure will be able to clear out the region of overcast cloud cover on Monday and Tuesday with scattered clouds. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.
