Clouds, Showers Saturday; Sunshine Returns Sunday

Friday's climate report
Friday's climate report
Scott Derek

After a deluge late Thursday night it continued into early Friday morning with numerous training showers and thunderstorms; since Midnight officially at Philadelphia International Airport 0.08" of rain fell with a low of 68. There were breaks in the clouds through the day on Friday with the high at the airport officially reaching 79 shortly after 1pm(mind you that the average high is 85). More showers and thunderstorms approached from the north and west in the late afternoon, but primarily stayed west of Center City until after sunset.

High pressure is trying to push in from the north, but a short wave will slowly push southward on Saturday

Overnight will remain cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms(some fog is possible as well); lows will be in the middle and upper 60s. Saturday will feature a continued onshore wind as high pressure tries to push in from the north as well as the threat for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon thanks to a short wave that will be pushing southward(as high pressure suppresses it that way). Highs will just be in the upper 70s with a partly sunny sky.

Come Sunday highs will be in the upper 70s again(still five to seven degrees below average) with sunshine and fair weather cumulus thanks to that continued northeasterly flow; back to work on Monday we'll be flirting with the 80-degree mark as we'll continue to stay dry and on Tuesday highs will be in the lower 80s with continued sunshine and fair weather clouds in the afternoon. Wednesday will be interesting as not only does a warm front progress northward by the afternoon, but there will also be a tropical system passing by a few hundred miles offshore(Cristobal?); there will be some extra clouds in the afternoon(along the shore and then with the warm front inland and maybe some showers/t-storms north as well) with highs in the upper 80s.

Come Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west we are still under the influence of high pressure just pumping in heat and humidity from the south; highs will be around 90 with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Come Friday we'll still have that front nearby so highs will be in the middle 80s with a continued threat of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
