Cloud Computing a New Fact of Business Reality

Cloud Computing is here to stay until perhaps some new breakthrough technology emerges to dwarf it. For now, companies big and small can share, consolidate and store files in the cloud. It even saves money and allows smaller companies to compete with larger companies. In other words, small companies can now do some of the things larger companies can do in the same amount of time.

An IBM global study reports “that more than 60% of companies plan to embrace cloud computing over the next five years to boost their competitive advantage.”According to the mega organization NASA, cloud computing allowed the organization’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory “to capture and store images and mega data from the Mars Exploration Rover and the Mars Science Laboratory missions.” It’s an exciting time for big companies with big visions and is argued to be the best way to do business if you want to save time and money.

According to Amazon, the company that provided the cloud support for JPL, their service “enabled the laboratory to construct a scalable web infrastructure in two or three weeks instead of months.” What about smaller companies, the cloud and challenges? Ramon Ray, journalist and editor of Smallbiztechnology.com evaluates three areas that small businesses are missing with the adoption of cloud computing,

  • Training
  • Measuring technology
  • Innovation

Despite the challenges there are eons of companies that seek to provide the best possible opportunities for small businesses in the cloud. Companies like OpenDrive.com offer unlimited online storage, backup and cloud content management.

What’s a major concern about the seemingly near effortless time-saving technology? According to computer science writer Phillip Presley,“cloud service can be down at times which could affect users” and privacy can be an issue for companies “unaware of how the collected data will be used. Here are some other facts about cloud computing for small, mid-sized and large companies:

  • 64% of the companies have reduced waste and has low energy consumption levels after shifting to cloud computing.
  • 65% of US companies shifted to the cloud in 2011.
  • 80% of companies have experienced immense progress just within a half year i.e. six months after moving to the cloud.
  • According to Larry Ellison of Oracle,“ Cloud computing is not only the future of computing, but the present and the entire past of computing.
  • The cloud is so easy that employees are adopting cloud solutions independently

The facts are convincing. Only the future will tell of its overall impact on the world of business and specifically the business of people, ideas, viable profits and hiring.
