CLOTHESLINE: Airing Music City's Laundry--Tim McGraw ditches management, Julianne Hough & Chuck Wicks dance away,Vern Gosdin dies, Miley Cyrus denies relationship rumors and Bryan Adams and Jason Aldean duet
- Tim McGraw--who seems to be turning more toward Hollywood than Nashville lately, as he is about to star in The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock--announced he would be dissolving his longtime relationship with rpm management. In a statement to the industry publication, Music Row, rpm management's Scott Siman said, "While it is a disappointment we weren't able to re-sign Tim, we are excited about rebuilding the roster of clients and the great things happening at rpm management group." I had the pleasure of working with Scott at rpm in 2001 when, in addition to Tim, the roster also included Jessica Andrews, Billy Gilman , Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Holly Williams. In addition to management, rpm music continues to have a strong presence, currently enjoying success with Montgomery Gentry's hit One In Every Crowd.
- Another former rpm client, Julianne Hough along with her on-screen and off-screen dance partner, Chuck Wicks made the news this week, as the two were voted off Dancing with the Stars. Chuck told TV Guide he will be returning to a headlining tour while Julianne revealed she will be opening on-tour for George Strait. Both are also working on their upcoming new cd releases. While Chuck said he would be hanging up his dancing shoes, rumor has it they duo might be dancing at their wedding in the near future.
- Vern Gosdin died Tuesday after an apparent massive stroke. Vern, known simply as The Voice saw his biggest success with the release of Chiseled in Stone which won him a 1989 CMA Award as Song of the Year. At the height of his career, Tammy Wynette was widely quoted saying Gosdin was, "the only other singer who can hold a candle to George Jones." Just last year, Gosdin released a box set 40 Years of The Voice. The singer was reported remodeling his tour bus in anticipation of appearances at this year's CMA Music Fest. According to a statement from his assistant, Dawn Hall, Gosdin had recently suffered a series of smaller strokes. Michael Illobre, funeral director at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in Nashville told the Associated Press Wednesday that Gosdin was under hospice care and was found dead late Tuesday in his Nashville hospital room. A public visitation is scheduled for Saturday at Mount Olivet.
- In a never ending attempt to dirty the reputation of ultra-adorable teen sensation, Disney darling Miley Cyrus, reports have been flooding the airwaves and blogosphere that Miley is planning to break it off with model-turned-Nashville Star wannabee-turned-older man Justin Gaston to reconcile with ex-bf Nick Jonas, the youngest of the JoBros. Via my latest addition, Twitter, the Hannah Montana star tweeted "Regarding 'rumor'. I like to keep my private life as private as possible. Justin and Nick are two very amazing people and they both mean so much to me." The rumors began when the ex's were spotted having lunch together in LA after having done a charity recording together. Come on people give Miley a break! She is 16 and one of the few seemingly nice girls and positive role models out there.
- In addition to the recent announcements from CMT regarding the star-studded line-up for their upcoming June 16 CMTMAs, word was released earlier this week that rocker Bryan Adams and country's Jason Aldean are the latest in a long-line of impressive duo partners set to take the stage at the next CMT CROSSROADS. The special will premiere on the country music cable network Friday, June 26.
