High school art teachers may be interested in a free eBook about printmaking available from Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine. The free book covers five different print making projects using such items as glass negatives, cloth, sun prints, gelatin prints and nature prints.
The gelatin prints sound like a good alternative for teachers that don’t have the funds to buy linoleum or other expensive printing materials. Unflavored gelatin is set in a large baking pan, unmolded onto a cutting board, and then covered with paint. Objects such as stencils, feathers, bubble wrap, or lace are pressed in the paint to make a picture by removing some of the paint. Finally, paper is pressed onto the gelatin to transfer the paint.
