What is leadership?
According to Investopedia, leadership is “the company’s management to make sound decisions and inspire others to perform well.” Leadership is the necessary workplace variable as it not only builds structure within a company it also provides all persons the benefit of mentorship. Senior management will benefit when personnel with strong leadership values and strategic knowledge are hired. That type of personnel can build a very solid business structure.
What is business structure?
Every business structure will differ just as each business has unique needs. What must be considered first is the building of a structure and who will be involved in the structure. The corporate business structure is the example used (seen in Figure a). It shows all layers of the company and gives a basic idea of how a company environment would evolve as well as operate. Even though this is just an image, what if this were an actual company in need of more executives in upper management. This type of scenario could easily happen in a corporate office. The question can then be asked how is the leadership gap filled and closed.
Closing the leadership gap in a business structure
There are two options how a leadership gap can be managed 1) interior training or 2) outside hiring. The first option will require interior training specific on current senior management and persons who are wanting to grow within the company. This type of training will involve specific training so it can become expensive however it is something which can be price controlled. The second option is hiring of retired military personnel into leadership positions. The choice reason for military is that they display leadership, discipline, and professionalism in the work environment. Of course, the above is only a scenario yet it is a consideration on how to resolve the leadership gap in business.
