The next time you are tempted to think you don't have enough space in your apartment or home, consider what it would be like to live in a closet with just 77 square feet. That is the size of Sergio Santos' home in Delray Beach, Florida.
The rent is $150 a month and he shares a bathroom with other renters. After struggling to make ends meet, he finds this is working well for him. He jokes good-naturedly that it is his "New York loft."
This is certainly an extreme example of simple living and an example of the steps some people are having to take to survive during this Great Recession. But I suspect that Santos won't be living there forever. People like him who do what they have to do when times get tough usually end up just fine in the long-run.
