‘Close Encounters’ french astrophysicist still chasing aliens

Jacques Vallée -- french astronomer, scientist, and ufologist -- spoke with Phoenix’s Open Minds Radio about his life-long career chasing aliens.  Vallée was the inspiration behind the character Claude Lacombe in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), and has been an iconoclastic figure against conservative science for decades.

According to Vallée, the modern clamp on UFO research is not so much a "coverup" as a shutdown through ridicule and intellectual posturing.

“It’s interesting that the scientific spirit of the 1700s has become established, constipated,” he says. “Once you break through the stupid rules, it’s really quite an adventure.”

In the 1970s, Vallée built the first computer database of ufo encounters in France.  He began aligning patterns in French cases with those in America, and what emerged was fascinating.

The phenomenon can make itself known on both the physical and psychological layer; it has an uncanny ability to take control of reality.  What we are dealing with is not a “normal” spacecraft from another planet, but something much more intriguing, much more complex.

In his new book Wonders in the Sky, Vallée asserts that visitations are older than ideas of Martians.  By assembling over 500 credible cases from antiquity to 1879,  Vallée proves that these encounters have long influenced the human race, and are the cause of new (and often suppressed) views of reality.

Jacque Vallée’s new book, Wonders in the Sky: Unexplained Aerial Objects from Antiquity to Modern Times (ISBN: 1585428205) is available as of October 28, 2010.  To hear the interview with Vallée on Open Minds Radio, click here.
