Rich and Laura Luz of Florida had an amazing adventure in La Paz Mexico this spring. Their tourist boat guide hurried snorkelers out of the water as a pod of about 20 killer whales approached. Soon a pod of killer whales was following the boat and playing in the wake. While dolphins frequently demonstrate this behavior, killer whale video like this is rare.
Killer whales are officially a member of the dolphin family, Delphinidae. They are the most widely distributed marine mammal, found in all parts of the oceans and in most seas from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Their numbers are higher in colder waters. Southern Killer Whales and some of their habitats have been watch-listed because of concerns of numbers and degradation of habitats.
