With the upcoming release of City of Bones in August, Cassandra Clare's name will be wider known that it already is. The Mortal Instruments is a six part series (although fans will be waiting a while for the finale) that follows Shadowhunters through modern day New York City. Full of humor, action, and romance, the series is an entertaining and addictive one!
When Clare decided to move the world of Shadowhunters to Victorian London, a new series was born. Clockwork Angel was released a couple of years ago and now readers, who had been swooning over Jace in The Mortal Instruments, were introduced to a brand new love triangle and a mystery. Tessa, the protagonist of Infernal Devices, is a young girl in search of who she is. Her past seems full of secrets that perhaps only her brother and a shady character named Mortmain can reveal. When she is welcomed to the London Institute, despite being unclear of what exactly she is (is she a warlock? half angel? half demon?), she can't help but be drawn to both dark and brooding Will and kind-hearted, dying Jem.
Clockwork Prince reveals more about Tessa, although not nearly enough, but also a lot more about Will. Events in the novel change much of what readers had previously believed and the cliffhanger endings (yes, there were many loose ends left at the conclusion) were emotionally destructive.
Now, the finale, Clockwork Princess, is available. A review will be posted shortly. Whatever the ending of the series reveals, it is sure to be heartbreaking.
