Sony Music Mogul and former Arista Records President Clive Davis has made headlines. Davis's new biographical book “Soundtrack of My Life” tells more than just his musical expertise, launching of big names such as Jennifer Hudson, Janis Joplin, and Whitney Houston, and controversial remarks about Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean.
A father of four children, Clive Davis revealed in “Soundtrack of my Life” that he is bisexual, having been in a relationship with an unnamed man for the past few years. Many people are surprised by Davis’s revelation, especially by the fact the 80-year old Davis is coming out as bisexual so late in life. Davis mentioned longtime relationships with two men, his current partner and a doctor he had dated for thirteen years.
Clive Davis’s first brush with bisexuality
After Davis’s second failed marriage to a woman, Davis revealed that he discovered a newfound emotional attraction to men. Davis recently opened up to ABC News correspondent Cynthia McFadden this past week about his personal life.
When asked about his bisexuality, Davis said to McFadden, “It’s not as I write this that the heavens opened up, but I realized in my case that the most important thing. I’m relationship oriented and would open up my perspective, my life, my emotions to have a relationship with a man as well as a woman.”
The "Soundtrack of My Life" author went on to explain that after his marriage was over, he had sex with two women and one man. Davis shared with McFadden that bisexuality is often misunderstood, but it does exist.
When asked if he ever felt shame about having sex with a man, Davis answered, “I never felt shame. No, I never felt shame. I felt puzzled. The subject of bisexuality really needs more discussion because the answer is: it is a status that does exist.”
Breaking it to his kids
Davis, who has four children, has come out to his kids, Davis’s male partner of seven years welcome on family trips.
“If I go with my family and take a boat, as we do every year, he (Davis’s partner) goes,” said Davis to McFadden.
Respecting his partner’s privacy, Davis did not name his male partner, stating, “I think that he’s private and that’s for him to decide.”
