Shaquille O’Neal entered the NBA in 1992 as a wide-eyed rookie with limitless potential; 19 years and four NBA titles later, he announced his retirement via Twitter along with an accompanying video message on Tout.
Different Los Angeles Clippers players reacted to the news accordingly on their own Twitter accounts.
Clippers guard Eric Gordon cited O’Neal as one of his all-time favorites on and off the court.
Shaq one of my favorite players of all-time retired. Probably the most entertaining guy u will ever meet. He will be missed in our league.
Clippers point guard Mo Williams had the pleasure of enjoying O’Neal’s company for one season during his stint with the Cavaliers. His tweet paid homage to O’Neal’s marketing prowess — music, movies, shoes, clothes and a myriad of other endorsements.
19 yrs a long time big fella. Good luck in the afterlife. I know u will.... Damn marketing genius
Clippers center DeAndre Jordan was only a 4-year-old toddler when O’Neal entered the league, but he was certainly aware of Shaq's accomplishments through the years.
19 year vet, 4 rings, 15 time all-star, 5th all-time scorer, one of my all-time favorites retired today @SHAQ. Great career big fella!!!
As Jordan pointed out, O’Neal has earned a long list of accolades and etched his name in NBA record books for various statistical categories.
His expansive list of nicknames is even more impressive — "The Diesel," "The Big Aristotle" and "Superman" to name just a few. Now, he will become "The Big 401K."
Fans, players, coaches, the media and certainly many others worldwide will miss a player whose personality was equally as big as his 7-foot, 300-plus-pound stature.
