Clipper systems to bring several chances for snow tonight through Tuesday (Photos)

An active weather pattern during the last week in January including Chicago's first 1"+ snowfall of the year, followed by freezing rain this past Sunday, followed by thunderstorms and record rainfall amid record warm temperatures on Tuesday, followed by periods of last snow amid frigid temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday will continue right into the month of February. Waves of clipper-type snow systems (or weak snow systems from Canada) will bring the threat for light accumulating snow during the first week of February. Computer models continue to indicate several impulses riding along the periphery of a upper level ridge located across the western U.S. It is an active northwest jet stream flow pattern located on the backside of an upper level trough across the eastern U.S. in which these small snow systems will ride on.

Through Tuesday, there are at least four of these clipper systems that will march over the region possibly bring snow to the area. Each of these snow systems have the potential for dumping anywhere from a dusting upwards of 2 or 3 inches of snow. The first shot comes late tonight and on Saturday. This one has the best shot of bringing accumulating snow on the order of 1-3". The second shot comes in late Saturday/early Sunday. A third clipper system could bring light snow on Monday. A fourth clipper system could bring in some snow on Tuesday. Between now and Tuesday, temperatures also will begin to moderate and climb closer to normal.
