She may be unemployed, but she is still coming out on top. Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton tops President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden in a new poll, according to a Feb. 8 Associated Press report.
According to a Quinnipiac University national poll released on Feb. 8, Clinton is the most popular national politician. In a survey of 1,772 registered voters (“with a margin of error of +/- 2.3”) conducted Jan. 30-Feb. 4, American voters approved of Clinton by a margin of 61-34 percent. Clinton polled higher every other national political figure including John Kerry, her successor as secretary of state and Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner.
“Hillary Clinton ends her term as secretary of state and the bruising inquiry into the Benghazi murders as easily the most popular actor on the American political stage today,” said Peter A. Brown, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
In an open-ended question, where respondents could provide any answer they wanted, 45 percent of voters with a favorable opinion of Clinton said the main reason they chose her was her job performance, experience and competence. Of those who registered unfavorable opinions, 21 percent cite the Benghazi controversy. 13 percent cited her political philosophy, 11 percent decided she was untrustworthy or dishonest and 7 percent listed poor job performance.
One could describe this national sentiment towards Clinton as one step toward an endorsement for the 2016 Democrat party nomination.
