Clinton declares women's rights the unfinished business of the 21st century

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared women rights to be “unfinished business” at a forum on worldwide women’s issues yesterday, emphasizing the fact that the mission of gender equality is “not limited to the developing world,” and that a lot more needs to be done to bring women up to a equal par with men here as well.

“If America is going to lead the way we expect ourselves to lead, we need to empower women here at home to participate fully in our economy and society. We need to make equal pay a reality, and we need to extend family and medical leave, as well as encourage women and girls to pursue careers in science and math.”

“We need to invest in our people so they can live up to their own God-given potential. This is truly the unfinished business of the 21st century and it is the work we are called to do,” Clinton stated. “I look forward to being your partner in all the days and years ahead.”
The former first lady and senator from New York, however offered no clues about any future plans to run for president in 2016.

Also speaking at the World summit were Angelina Jolie, Maya Angelou, Tina Brown, and Malala Yousufzai, the 15-year old girl shot by the Taliban for advocating girls’ education.
