Clint Eastwood's Super Bowl ad (VIDEO) and its political overtones

Clint Eastwood gave what is being called the most striking commercial of the Super Bowl show on February 5, 2012.  Eastwood did a pitch for Chrysler - and President Barack Obama

The commercial had more political overtones than President Barack Obama’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast last week.  And that is a lot of overtone.

The bulk of Eastwood’s script of the Chrysler commercial called 'It's Half-Time in America' was that America’s automobile industry in Detroit has come back strong again - just as America allegedly has. Claiming that America is strong again - or as strong as it was in the recent past - is debatable, of course.

Any mention of the return of the automobile industry reminds one of the only success Obama and the Democrats had with the trillions-of-dollars spent on bailing out American businesses since Obama became president in 2009.

And to those who aren’t convinced of the political overtones yet, listen to Eastwood’s last words in the commercial, as the ad’s producer cranked up the echo to his voice for effectiveness:

This country can’t be knocked out with one punch.  We get right back up again, and when we do the world is going to hear the roar of our engines.  Yeah.  It’s half-time America, and our second half is about to begin.

The 'second half' Eastwood refers to wasn't only the Super Bowl's second half of the game.  Looking at the entire context of the ad, it's quite obvious that the intended political overtone is to tell America that Obama's second half is about to begin - his next four years.  It couldn’t have been stated better in a campaign speech written by President Obama's best speech writers.

The commercial may have simply been a rewarding thank you to Obama for the bail out money, as one doubts that Obama's re-election campaign pitched in to pay for the exhorbitant cost of the ad running during the Super Bowl.  Whatever it was, it's safe to say that the Republicans didn't get equal time.  The commercial was done extremely well, and it was another great performance by Clint Eastwood.

Chrysler’s ad was just one of many automobile commercials viewed during the Super Bowl this year.  It shows how much a company can afford with America’s money.

Yet, there was no ad for Solyndra - and never will be.
