The Buffalo Motorsports Examiner recently had the opportunity to speak with NASCAR veteran Clint Bowyer, who was a judge and coach in this season’s PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge. Learn more about the program here and more about Bowyer here and in this piece.
At 35 years of age, NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer is already a 10-year veteran of stock car racing’s elite series. Bowyer made his first NASCAR top-tier level start in the Nationwide Series at Texas Motor Speedway in April 2004, and has gone on to earn eight Cup Series wins, eight wins in the Nationwide Series and three in the Camping World Truck Series.
Bowyer, along with team owner Michael Waltrip, teammates Brian Vickers and Jeff Burton and longtime PEAK spokesperson Danica Patrick, are part of the 2014 PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge, which will award one lucky driver a shot at stardom with a ride for a K&N Pro Series race. To see the list of drivers participating in this year’s Challenge and their videos, visit peakstockcardream.com. The PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge will air on the Velocity Channel on August 2nd at 9 p.m. ET.
In addition to watching the young drivers in the PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge, Bowyer has had the opportunity to watch a number of young up-and-coming drivers in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series over the last few seasons and gives the newcomers high marks.
“Kyle Larson – what a talent he is,” said Bowyer. “There’s no question Kyle’s gonna get better as he gains experience – he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned in this sport for a long time. Chase Elliott’s done a good job at making a name for himself. The Dillon boys, I’ve been close to them for many years racing for Richard (Childress) and watching their careers blossom. But if I had to rate all of them, I’d say this Kyle kid is legit, he’s the real deal and the one everyone is going to be watching for a long time.”
Bowyer and his wife Lorra are going to be adding to the future crop of NASCAR drivers soon – the couple is expecting their first child, a boy, in the fall.
“We’re expecting September 26, we’re pretty excited about it,” said Bowyer. “She’s getting pretty close, she’s starting to look like she’s ready.”
With the baby boom taking place in NASCAR over the last few years, Bowyer has been offered plenty of help from his fellow drivers, whether he wants it or not.
“I didn’t have to (ask them for advice), they all came to me!” exclaimed Bowyer. “They came running to me! Matt Kenseth has been texting me every week, giving me crap about something. I think I always gave those guys a lot of trouble about changing diapers and now they’ve repaid the favor – but I’m ready for it.”
