Country superstar Clint Black will be visiting the North Valley on Jan. 22, playing at Chico State's Laxson Auditorium.
Clint Black hit the country scene in 1989, as part of the "Class of '89," which featured initial hits from some of country music's biggest stars, like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Travis Tritt. Black's debut single, "A Better Man" shot up the charts, giving him his first of over two dozen number one hits. The single was the first of five released from his debut CD, "Killin' Time," of which four of the five singles released; "A Better Man," the title track, "Nobody's Home" and "Walkin' Away," each peaked at the top of the charts. The fifth track, "Nothing's News" peaked at No. 3.
1989 was also a year in which Black earned numerous awards, taking home the ACM Album of the Year for "Killin' Time," as well as Top New Male Vocalist, Top Male Vocalist, Single of the Year, for "A Better Man" and Vocal Event of the Year for "When I Said I Do," performed with his lovely wife, Lisa Hartman-Black. At the CMA Awards that year, Black also took home the coveted Horizon Award. According to the CMA, The Horizon Award is given to individual or a group, who is known primarily as a Country artist, who has for the first time demonstrated the most significant creative growth and development in overall chart or sales activity (of a debut or sophomore album), live performance, professionalism and/or national media recognition related to the launch of their career.
