On April 4, the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) and Fight Colorectal Cancer (FightCRC) announced their newest partnership and patient initiative, the Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trial Call to Action campaign. Powered by the advocacy groups' partner EmergingMed, the new service matches colorectal cancer patients with currently recruiting clinical trials that the patients can discuss with their oncologists.
The Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trial Matching Service provides free, personalized identification of clinical trial options that match each patient’s diagnosis, stage and treatment history. EmergingMed also provides personal clinical trials navigators to enrolled participants. Patients, loved ones and healthcare professionals can access the service from:
- Colon Cancer Alliance
- Fight Colorectal Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trial Call to Action toll-free service number: 866-278-0392
Applicants will be matched with a Clinical Trials Navigator who guides them through the entire clinical trial matching process. The EmergingMed online tool is available to patients, loved ones and healthcare professionals at any time. Personalized clinical trials navigators are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. ET.
In 2010, EmergingMed provided a similar clinical trial matching service to 11 lung cancer advocacy groups in the Lung Cancer Clinical Trials Call to Action campaign. The company hopes to repeat its success with a similar focused clinical trial matching service for colorectal cancer patients. Colorectal cancer is the 2nd most deadly form of cancer in the U.S., behind lung cancer.
CCA and Fight Colorectal Cancer hope to encourage colorectal cancer patients to take charge of their diagnosis and learn about clinical trials. According to Fight Colorectal Cancer president Carlea Bauman, “Patients who participate in clinical trials also help further colorectal cancer research.”
Bauman continued, “Today's clinical trial could be tomorrow's standard treatment. Unfortunately the process of finding an appropriate trial can be mind-boggling to patients, which is why Fight Colorectal Cancer is pleased to join with EmergingMed and the Colon Cancer Alliance on this vital program.”
According to Andrew Spiegel, CEO of the Colon Cancer Alliance, “[The]center piece of this service is the [EmergingMed] Clinical Trials Navigator who can help make this process less overwhelming.”
Colorectal cancer patients often make treatment decisions early in their diagnosis that impact their eligibility for clinical trials. EmergingMed, the Colon Cancer Alliance and Fight Colorectal Cancer hopes to keep as many treatment options available for colorectal cancer patients as possible via the services available in the Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials Call to Action campaign.
