In part 1 of this series, we discussed atmosphere which spiritually speaking, is determined by the chemistry of the people in the room and the "temperature" that is created - cold and harsh or warm and friendly. Climate is a sustained atmosphere. In sustaining an atmosphere it requires an "awareness" of what is actually taking place so we will know what needs to be maintained to get the desired result.
For example, if a husband wants to "woo" his wife, he could plan a romantic evening at home to include a candlelight dinner, her favorite flowers and soft music. He has created a romantic atmosphere. In order to create a climate of romance for their relationship, they would need to continue to do things that please one another and maintain the romance that is now in the air over a period of time.
A climate change is a significant and lasting change over a period of time, though it may be limited to a specific region. We are seeking a climate change in Detroit, but in order to change the climate, we must first discern the attitude of the majority that is being reflected. If this attitude is not one that contributes to the spiritual growth that we seek, there are two things that must be done:
- Define the obstacle
- Look for the Truth in the Word about the obstacle.
Just as we understand that oranges will grow in Florida, but not in Michigan, we can see that the climate, not the seed, is often the factor that sustains or inhibits growth. We are planting the right seeds to witness change in the city of Detroit and elsewhere; however, how can we change the climate to break the strongholds that leave so many unresponsive and in disbelief?
Stay tuned for part 3 when we will explore strongholds in more depth.
