Breaking. More “hockey stick” science has been shown to be fraudulent. The blogosphere is crackling with the discovery that climate catastrophe is being faked!
The paper in question is that of Shaun A. Marcott, a newly minted graduate student at Oregon State, a hotbed of climate alarmist activism, and his more senior collaborators.
The doctoral research of Marcott et al. was republished in Science, proclaimed in the New York Times, and fear-mongered in the Atlantic. Mother Jones rejoiced in the impending disaster. CNN intoned darkly on "epic" global warming. Too bad it's not true.
Not to be daunted, co-author of the study, Jeremy Shakun of Harvard University, ramped up the alarm in a carefully contrived press release, “We are heading for somewhere that is far off from anything we have seen in the past 10,000 years – it’s through the roof. In my mind, we are heading for a different planet to the one that we have been used to.”
The trouble is that these latest claims of disaster are a fraud, as have been all the previous ones. The problem is that mainstream media and its academic minions are invested in catastrophe that is not happening.
Also bad news for scapegoat grad student, Shaun A. Marcott, is that his research data was manipulated to show impending tragedy when it was published in Science, making him the messenger of unnecessary bad news for the nation and delivery boy of doctored data for his doctoral degree.
The lead detective in unraveling the fraud was data-analysis hound, Steve McIntyre, who audits climate science and runs the Climate Audit blog. He smelled a rat when he observed a dramatic uptick in temperatures reported for the 20th century, coming after 11,300 years of slow or no temperature change, as reported in Science. Somehow between Marcott’s thesis and the Science publication the dramatic uptick in temperature got added.
McIntyre’s analysis of the data is too complicated to go into here. Suffice it to say that he examined how Marcott’s data was “recalibrated,” “redated,” and otherwise manipulated to produce the desired result as a dramatic rise in recent global temperatures. Perhaps worst of all, data that showed the embarrassing decreasing temperatures in the 20th century were simply…. dropped.
The story is ongoing. Climate science watchdog, McIntyre, continues to zero in on the data manipulation. Once again, the public has been snookered by the climate establishment, which continues on the uptake of billions of public dollars, taxpayer funds, and government sponsorship.
In the process, Science magazine has reaffirmed its status as the supermarket tabloid of climate. No publications on climate appear there without the message of impending disaster, as shown by data presented with false authority.
Calls to Science demanding the retraction of the Marcott paper have begun, according to climate blogger Anthony Watts. Past history indicates that such an embarrassing retraction will not happen, nor will there be any disclosure of manipulated data in the mainstream media.
