Famous celebrity photographer and director, Cliff Watts debuted his nude photo series Wood, Water & Rocks at Milk studios. Watts is widely known for his ad campaigns for fashion houses like Hugo Boss and Armani as well as works for Vanity Fair and Elle. While photographing his celebrity clientele, Watts started shooting short films of his subjects. He is known for his film collaboration with artist like Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson. Watts work is noted for its intimate natural. Portraits reveal the sensuality, humor and humanity that lie behind the public image of his subjects.
The event was full of beautiful and fashionable Manhattanites. It was a typical Milk studio event, buzzing with energy and celebrity sightings. Tina Knowles was there to commemorate Watts first photography book on behalf of her daughter ,new first time mother, Beyonce.
As described by Cliff Watts, Wood, Water & Rock is"a collaboration between myself and six willing friends who volunteered to go through extreme heat, freezing cold and various uncomfortable conditions." Placing the nude human body opposite textures of rock, grass, sand, wood and water, Cliff envisions the bodies as human fossils. Watts explained, “the bodies appeared like fossils in the wilderness. I love the way nature works in opposition to the strength of the forms.”
The photos were interesting but nothing very striking. I found the pictures to be a bit flat but I did admire the beautiful naked human bodies. I’m sure with Watts fame and long celebrity clientele roster, his tabletop book will be a hit.
Wood Water & Rock will be his first tabletop book and can be found at Amazon for purchase.
